There are different opinions about in what century the epic about love “Kyz Zhibek” originated. Some sources indicate the 16^th, 17^th, 18^th centuries. Academician Seyit Kaskabasov notes that “Kyz Zhibek” became in 15^th 16^th centuries a whole epic, i.e. an artistic work. In any case, it is obvious that the epic emerged after the formation of the Kazakh Khanate and the formation of the Kazakh ethnos. The plot of the epic was based on the love story of two young people from Kazakh tribes that inhabited the territory of Zhaiyk and Black Sea and the Urals.

The epic "Kyz Zhibek" was included in the UNESCO holiday calendar in 2008 and it was decided to celebrate the 500th anniversary.
