From June 15 to 20, 2026, the First International Forum of Eurasian Museums, entitled «The Great Exchange in Eurasia: Future Opportunities and Multilateral Cooperation», was held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, and organized by the Chinggis Khaan National Museum.
The forum served as an important platform for professional dialogue aimed at strengthening cooperation among museums across the Eurasian region and promoting international collaboration in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
As part of the forum, Berik Abdygaliuly, Director of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, delivered a presentation highlighting the modern development trends of Kazakhstan’s museums and sharing the country’s experience in coordinating, researching, preserving, and promoting cultural heritage. He also provided a comprehensive overview of the museum’s research, restoration, exhibition, and international activities.
Prior to the opening of the event, Berik Abdygaliuly met with Academician Sampildondov Chuluun, Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, as well as heads of museums from Central Asian countries. During the meeting, the participants discussed expanding inter-museum cooperation, strengthening academic ties, and implementing joint international projects.
The forum brought together museum directors, scholars, and industry professionals from 25 countries across Eurasia. Participants shared best practices in museum management, cultural heritage preservation, scientific research, and the organization of international exhibitions, while also discussing prospects for future collaborative initiatives.
The primary objective of the forum was to strengthen cooperation among Eurasian museums, facilitate the exchange of professional expertise, promote scientific and exhibition activities, and create new opportunities for the implementation of international cultural projects. The initiative is being carried out with the support of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh.
During his visit, Berik Abdygaliuly toured the «Great Khans Park», which is currently under construction at the initiative of the President of Mongolia. He also met with Otgonsuren Dugansuren, Director of the National Museum of Mongolia, and Manshuk Nuramkhaan, Head of the Mongolian Museum of Natural History. The parties exchanged views on expanding inter-museum cooperation and implementing joint exhibitions and research projects.
On the final day of the forum, participants took part in a tree-planting ceremony held in a new park near Karakorum, the former capital of the Chinggis Khaan Empire. As part of the event, a spruce sapling was planted on behalf of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, symbolizing friendship and cultural ties between nations.
The international forum held in Mongolia contributed to strengthening the international standing of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan and opened new opportunities for expanding its cooperation with the global museum community. Furthermore, the event laid a solid foundation for promoting Kazakhstan’s rich historical and cultural heritage internationally, enhancing cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and implementing joint scientific, exhibition, and research projects in the future.
