Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities through Dance: Experience of Kazakhstan and Russia

The National Museum hosted the final event of the 8th Inclusive Museum Festival of Children’s Creativity «Meiirim» – a roundtable discussion titled «Inclusive Dance and Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities through Dance: Experience of Kazakhstan and Russia».

The keynote speaker of the meeting was Leonid Tarasov, founder of the «Inclusive Dance» movement and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences (Russia). He shared his extensive experience in implementing inclusive dance programs.

Choreographers from various organizations in Astana took part in the roundtable, including the social service centers «Nurly Zhurek» and «Zhansaya», the public foundation «Sunny World», the branch of the Republican Public Association «Union of Parents of Children with Special Needs», School-Gymnasium No. 65, Special Schools No. 1 and No. 2 under the Akimat of Astana, the «Clover Foundation», «World of Equal Opportunities» public foundation, the inclusive modeling and theater academy «KunTomi,” and inclusive fashion theaters «Bolashak» and «Special Hearts», among others.

The event was also attended by choreographers of inclusive groups «Batyl Zhurek» (Karaganda) and «Zharkyn DAMU» (Aktau), representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo, and the head of projects of the «BI-JULDYZAI» foundation.

The discussion covered issues such as staging inclusive choreography, participation in daytime education modules in Astana, artistic and pedagogical approaches in inclusive choreography, as well as the development of creative potential through inclusion. The roundtable served as an important platform for exchanging experience, fostering professional dialogue, and developing new approaches to advancing inclusive practices.

As dance is not only an art form but also a unique language that unites people and inspires confidence and hope, discussing rehabilitation through inclusive dance proved especially relevant. During the roundtable, participants shared experiences and exchanged views on the development of the inclusive field.
